Jeet (born Jeetendra Madnani) is a Bengali film actor, producer and television presenter from Kolkata,India.
Jeet began his acting career with the lead role in Saathi directed by Haranath Chakraborty and released in the year 2002. The film not only met with good critical response and box office success but also helped Jeet in receiving the BFJA - Most Promising Actor Award. Followed by films Champion (2003), Naater Guru (2003), Shongee (2003), Premi (2004), Bondhon (2004), Juddho (2005), Hero (2006), Neel Akasher Chadni , Wanted (2010), Josh (2010), Dui Prithibi (2010), Fighter (2011), Shotru (2011), 100% Love[4](2012), Awara (2012), Deewana (2013), Boss (2013), Game (2014), Bachchan (2014), he had established himself as one of the leading heroes of Tollywood.
Jeet is the recipient of two Anandalok Awards for Best Actor, two Tele Cine Awards and one Kalakar Awards.[citation needed]

Early life[edit]

Jeet was born in a Sindhi family. As a child he studied at Andhra association school in Shah Nagar Road Kolkata, St. Joseph & Mary's School, New Alipore later in National High School, Hazra Road and completed his graduation from the Bhawanipur Education Society College of the University of Calcutta. However, his academic life was interrupted soon after for joining his family business.[5]

Personal life[edit]

Jeet married Mohana Ratlani, a school teacher from Lucknow on 24 February 2011.[6][7]

1993–95[edit]

Jeet started with modelling assignments and then shifted to serials like Bishabriksha in 1994–95 directed by Bishnu Palchaudhuri in which he played Taracharan, Janani by Bishnu Palchaudhuri in which he played Anil and Daughters of the Century by Tapan Sinha in which he was cast in the roles of Champiya and Kadambini.

2001–04[edit]

Jeet collaborated with Haranath Chakraborty for Naater Guru, which had debutant Koel Mullick, in the female lead. He later acted with Priyanka Trivedi in the film Sangee, released on 14 June 2003. In 2004, his first film was with Raima Sen, named Shakti. His other films of the year include Premi; opposite debutant Chandana Sharma; Mastan, Aakrosh, andBandhan.

2005–08[edit]

In 2005, his successful film was Yuddha which had Mithun Chakraborty, Koel Mullick and Deboshree Roy in other prominent roles. The film made on a budget of 2 crore (including print and publicity), recorded an unprecedented initial of Rs 1.2 crore in the first week.Yuddha ran to 90 per cent occupancy at Mitra Cinema Hall, while Prachi Cinema Theaterand Bharati Cinema Hall recorded 100 per cent collections [8] In 2005, Jeet collaborated with Koel Mullick for the two times in Shubhodrishti, directed by Prabhat Roy and Manik, also directed by Prabhat Roy. Jeet won the Anandalok Awards for Best Actor for Manik.
Jeet again acted with Koel Mullick in two consecutive films-Ghatak and Hero. He played the role of Govindlal, in Raja Sen's directional venture, Pitribhumi which starred Swastika Mukherjee and Monali Thakur as female leads. His next film was with Hrishita Bhatt, titledBidhatar Lekha, which starred Priyanshu Chatterjee as the main antagonist. The film explores two lovers and their relationship in their last life that had come to a tragic end, and the pair confronts each other again in the current incarnation. He again collaborated with Swastika Mukherjee for the film Partner in 2008. Jeet collaborated with for Jor which made on a budget Rs. 1.25 crore crossed seven weeks in theater and proved to be a hit in the box office.[9]

2009–13[edit]

Jeet appeared with Koel Mullick in the films Saat Paake Bandha and Neel Akasher Chadni after a hiatus of 3 years (they appeared last in 2006). He starred in Dui Prithibi, which released on 14 October 2010. The film also marks the colloboration of two of the biggest stars of Bengali cinema, Jeet and Dev, for the first time in celluloid. The film released in an unprecedented 209 theatres across West Bengal on a Thursday during 'Saptami' of the 'Durga Puja'. It ran for 5 weeks in the city The film had its longest multiplex run of 4 weeks at 'Bioscope', Axis Mall in Rajarhat and Inox Burdwan. "Dui Prithibi" completed an extraordinary run of 50 weeks at the distant rural theatres of Basanti at Dantan andHaraparbati at Jhatipahari. "Dui Prithibi" was the highest grosser of 2010, according to a study conducted by FICCI & Deloitte.[10][11][12][13][14][15]
In another isolated report in 'The Times of India' on 15.6.12, it was reported that the film was made on a budget of Rs.35 million and did 'tentative business' of Rs.40 million. Dui Prithibi fell short of delivering a 'superhit/blockbuster', but the collections were good enough to adjudge the film a 'hit' and a considerable success. After the success of Dui Prithibi, he starred with Srabanti Malakar in Fighter, the remake of Telugu film Lakshyam. Produced by Eskay Movies, the film became a hit venture at the box office. He paired opposite debutant Nusrat Jahan in Raj Chakraborty's action film Shotru, which was a remake of Tamil blockbuster film Singam. His role of a cop received him accolades. Roshni Mukherjeeof The Times Of India told "Shatru" is a killer, all thanks to Dibakar Singha and his deadly fists that become super 'hot', what with fire running through them.[16] Jeet reappeared with Priyanka Trivedi on the silver screen with Hello Memsaheb.[17] Jeet portrayed the role of a foreign-returned corporate honcho Megh Chatterjee who dons the guise of Oriya domestic help, named Priyo, and picks up the nuances and tricks of the trade from his own help back home, to become the domestic help of his love Mita. In 2012 he became a successful producer with his Blockbuster hit movie named 100% Love, in which he acted opposite Koel Mullick. His second film in 2012 was Awara,[18] opposite Sayantika Banerjeewhich has broken all the records in the history of Bengali cinema. After the satisfying box office results of Awara, Jeet appeared as a lead role in his next gangster action film Bosswith Subhasree Ganguly which was a remake of Mahesh Babu's Businessman and was released in 2013. The film was directed by Baba Yadav under the banner of Reliance Entertainment. Jeet got positive reviews for his performance of a rookie named Surya, who moves to the country's commercial capital to become a mafia don and fell in love with the Police Commissioner's daughter. Jaya Biswas of The Times of India told "Jeet looks slim and fit. He can dance, fight and emote as well. His performance — as a shrewd and confident guy, who couldn't care less about scruples in life — is worthy of mention."[19] But the film garnered negative to mixed reviews for its storyline but was declared Super hit at box office along with highest opener film in Tollywood film industry. The film became the highest biggest opener film, earning Rs.72.5 lakhs, in its opening day. The film had also beaten the first day box office collections of Khoka 420, which was Rs.70 lakhs.[20] Jeet won the Kalakar Awards for The King of Tollywood for the film. He was also nominated forBest Actor in the inaurgal ceremony of Filmfare Awards East.

2013–14[edit]

Jeet acted in an extended special performance with Abir Chatterjee and Shraddha Das in Neeraj Pandey's debut Bengali production venture The Royal Bengal Tiger. Produced byNeeraj Pandey's Friday Filmworks and Jeet's Grassroot Entertainment and distributed by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, the film turned out to be a critical and commercial success. Jeet's performance of a suave and slightly dangerous Anjan who completely transforms the main protagonist in the film, received critical acclaim from the critics[21] He also acted in Baba Yadav's second directional venture Game in which he played the role of a officer of DIA working in the Indian Army.
In 2014, Jeet co-starred with Aindrita Ray (in her debut Bengali film) in the film Bachchan, which released on 3 October 2014, to positive response from critics as well as from audiences.[22]

Brand endorsements[edit]

A relatively small budget ad of a regional brand of men's innerwear had Jeet in the lead. He became the brand ambassador of Fashion at Big Bazaar (a unit of Future Group) on 18 September 2013.[23]In 2005, a special Durga Puja campaign of Thums Up launched Jeet as their brand ambassador in West Bengal.[24]
